Lockouts

What to do if you are locked out of your apartment.

1

During business hours, start with building management

If you are locked out during the working day, contact the building manager first. It is the quickest route and there is no callout fee.

2

Access is limited to owners and tenants managed on site

Building management can only let you in if you are a lot owner, or a tenant whose tenancy they manage. This is not a rule they can bend — letting someone into an apartment they do not manage is not theirs to authorise.

3

Renting through an outside agency? Call your agency

If your tenancy is managed by an external real estate agency, they hold the keys and the authority. Contact them directly. Building management cannot provide access on their behalf, even during business hours.

4

Outside business hours, call the approved locksmith

The number is displayed on the building manager’s door.

Have three things ready before you call: photo identification, proof this is your address, and a way to pay. A locksmith will not open a door without all three. Fees apply.
